Building the Acorn dinghy
Early in January 2010, the LBT commenced its first boatbuilding course aimed at the general public. Many boats, in fact nearly the whole LBT fleet, have been built in the past 10 years in partnership with various of the local schools.
5 students commenced the course to build this little 12 foot Whitehall dinghy. The future owner wanted a light and easy to row boat for her and her daughter. In addition this boat can be sailed as well.
Week 1 saw the plans lofted, sheets of ply scarphed together to allow for full length planks to be cut, the stem to be laminated in shape
Week 2 saw the transom shaped out of celery top pine, the stock where the dinghy will be built was constructed, the keel and stem laid and joined
These photo albums can be accessed by double clicking on each thumbnail photo or the photos can be previewed by hovering the mouse over each thumbnail. This will take you a me.com site where my .mac account (now regrettably known as me.com) resides. I can put a lot of photos there very cheaply in comparison to loading them onto the lbt.org.au site.
