Sailing weekends
LBT sailing weekend January 2010
Sail training photos can be seen here and photos of the April expedition can be seen here.
We have offered several opportunities for people to get together and sail and enjoy themselves. Unfortunately there has been little interest and most of these planned expeditions have been curtailed or even cancelled. This is particularly unacceptable as we have been having one of our warmer summers when it is even more enjoyable being out on the water.
As stated elsewhere we are committed to sail and row training and we keen to revisit our family sail training weekend so parents and children learn and enjoy sailing together. We hope to obtain ongoing funding iin order to promote this worthwhile activity that confers so many benefits to both individuals and community.
It would be good to know members’ preferences: whether you would like to just go sailing and camping or do some formal sail training with kids etc. We have the boats and instructors, though to be fair to the instructors, who have donated a lot of time this year, we should be rewarding them for coming along on their day off.
We are also considering training classes for the Switsure, which is a licensed training vessel and this activity offers a number of interesting and worthwhile benefits:
•Aerobic exercise
•Calorie consumption
•Cardiac and respiratory exercise
•Team skills awareness and improvement, an excellent opportunity for team building for businesses and organisations
•Rhythm and timing, coordination of hand and eye activity
•Appreciation of history and an appreciation of the short amount of time since our ancestor’s dependence on hand, animal or wind powered tools
